Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
Well because of the love shared, it only changes. It takes awhile to undo the "two being one", then learning to be "one" again.
Read a Unique and Devastating loss, by wifeless. It explains a lot. It was my "AHA" moment when I came here at 10 months.
You are also in the dreaded "acceptance" beginning. My heart to you, these are rough waters.
We can be your support, "water wings" in it for you. Waves will gradually get smaller, but it takes awhile. The love doesn't, it becomes sweeter
There is no magic time measurement.
Gentle hugs, Jewells
It's been four months since my wife died, but 17 years since my daughter died. And although it's been 17 years there are still some songs that come on the radio that will send me back to the days when she died in the accident. But it's only for moments.
I remember that we had a cruise with friends, already paid for, for a month after our daughter died. We took it because we were going with our closest friends. On that cruise, at the blackjack table I mentioned to this lady that my daughter had just died. She looked at me, knowingly, and said "you have to let them go". She had lost a daughter 10 years earlier. It seemed impossible to consider that, but there was wisdom that only comes with experience.
I still think about my daughter, and I still think about my wife, but we must learn to function without them, and we will.
Jewels1 I just read Unique and Devastating loss and that was the first thing that I had read that says exactly how I feel. I printed and will read often to remind me I'm not going nuts but others feel the same way.
We had been married for 38 years and have 4 grandchildren. The youngest is 3 1/2 and is constantly asking if Poppy is coming home. My husband traveled quite a bit for work so it was not unusual for him to be gone for days but no matter how hard we try to explain it to him he still expects him to walk in. I wish he could.
Thank you all !!
