In an earlier post I mentioned the problem in my state with transferring vehicles from a deceased spouses name to the survivor when there is no will. It involves creating an estate, going to probate and getting an affidavit and paying taxes on the value of the cars plus court fees etc. Since the two late model cars were the only thing we had in his name alone and we really had nothing else because we rent and money is now really tight this would have been a huge problem for me. My funeral director had suggested just go to DMV and tell them my husband is no longer driving and I want to transfer the cars over to my name. I pulled myself together filled out the titles and all the registration forms at DMV and thankfully it all went through without a problem today. He would have been so proud because although I was shaking like a leaf I did not cry or give to much information which he always told me i had a tendency to do when I am nervous. I even came home and changed the plates on both cars myself. It may be small in the scheme of things but I did it and I am proud of myself as well because I had the strength to do it and even though it exhausted me for the day at least I know I can actually begin to do the things I need to do even if it is just one at a time. He was with me I am sure which gave me the added strength to get it done. Now the tears are coming but I will take another step down this road again tomorrow because I know I can and he is with me with each step I take.
