My husband never wore a wedding band.  He was a mechanic by trade and he also liked to work on his own stock and antique cars when he wasn't working.  There was hardly a time when he wasn't working on cars and wearing jewelry is too dangerous for that kind of occupation.  I, however, wore a gold wedding band.  When he took his last breath, I took the band off of my finger and placed it on his.  His hands were much larger than mine and normally I would never have gotten it on his finger but he had lost so much weight due to the cancer that I was able to slip it on his pinkie finger.  I don't know why I did this.  I did not plan to do it but it felt right at the moment.  It did occur to me that I might regret losing my wedding band but at that moment it seemed like a worthy sacrifice.  A few days later the funeral director called me up and told me she had the ring, that they did not burn jewelry (he was cremated).  So I took the ring back and was actually quite happy to have it back and have worn it ever since.

I know there is no right or wrong answer as to whether you should wear the wedding band after your spouse has died but I am wondering:  What have all of you done with your wedding bands?
