Long story but, will try to make it short.
When my wife was diagonosed we had no insurance. So we applied for help from the state and the hosipital. By the time the state was done with us she had passed away, we were denied atd cause she had died. The hospital didn't get back to me till end of October, they wanted 10 percent of everything just to be considered, I talked to my fin. advisor about that and we decided okay and I sent them a check. Hadn't heard any thing back from them till today. Went to the mailbox and had a stack of statements from them 20 envolopes in total. Up until this time I had paid all of the bills I had received over 50,000 dollars, The hospital had been holding theirs, I guess, till they decided what to do. Now I know what is in these but I can't even open them. Guess I will wait till tomarrow can't take anymore bad news today. One of her chemo treatments was 30,000 dollars she had 8 plus radiation treatments and 3 stays in the hosipital so I'm thinking this is going to be bad. I'm not rich had retired but we were comfortable could live nicely on whatwe had saved. Now I'm not sure what I'm going to do. We had decided to drop our insu the year before she got sick, stupid but done. It was costing us about 12000 a year and we were healthy she didn't want to pay out that kind of money for something we were not using, oh boy hindsight is 20/20. Well thats about it thanks for listening. Any advice would be welcome.

Have you consulted with an attorney in your state regarding whether you are liable for any of the bills? My attorney was the first person I called the day after my husband died. The first thing he told me was to not pay any of the bills as I was not responsible for them in KY.

Please consult an attorney about these bills before you pay one more. I too had/have much medical debt, but my attorney is assisting me with getting it cleared up. I also recommend that you look into getting started on insurance for yourself. If you need help with that I can also recommend a great medical insurance agent. Best of luck to you on all of this. Oh By The Way An attorney shouldn't cost you anything for a consultation...
