the good news, though, is that I rarely have those same thoughts anymore. I still wake up thinking about him most mornings (of course the pictures I have of him around my bedroom certainly contribute to that), but my thoughts are of happier memories, or imagined current scenarios, and tend not to include those last hours in the hospital.

Hugs,
Va;
I realized early on that I wasn't going to be able to sleep alone. Fortunately, a cousin had given my daughter a 5 foot tall stuffed moose. So we put Rob's darth vader t-shirt on him and named him Moose Vader. We also sprayed him with Rob's body spray so he smells like him too. Moose Vader sleeps in Rob's spot and probably will for a very long time.
Al and I used to get up, he would turn on the news, I'd make coffee and breakfast, we'd talk about our day.
Now I exercise with a friend at 8:30 3x a week so that helps. And, of course, time helps.

He could hear it in my voice and kept me on the phone. He told me his story and he actually had a plan how he was going to go out. Without getting into details he said that God intervened thru someone he knew. After talking for awhile he got me thru most of the morning. Then my step daughter called. We started making funeral arrangements. I knew I still had work to do. But still over the next few days I wrote and rewrote several letters to my daughter what to do with the dogs and property. Then I thought about Linda and our faith. And I wanted to see her again but slowly came to the realization that I would have to wait until my race is over.
But that first morning and several after that I just can't describe that level of pain and grief in words. That was in August 2015.Right now there is emptiness but I am slowly learning how to adjust to her not being there when I wake up. STILL HURTS!!!!
Take care.
Peace, Tim
So every morning for a LONG time I relived that shocking realization.
SO Many times I woke up from dreaming that he had not really died, I'd just had a bad dream but he was still alive here with me! THEN real awakening: No, I just dreamt he was still alive, but really he had died. He was gone. I hated waking up. the deceit of my own dreams was torment..
