Visiting our vacation home

Wow, almost a year and the pain still very raw. We had this home over 20 years and it was just hubby and me here a lot. Full of memories, cards, my husbands paintings and down time when I can feel his presence so strong, his arms around me. Lots of tears, but cannot bring myself to sell this home that we shared so much down time together in. Hear aches. My little 19 year old dog is with me as she was with us here for 19 years. She can't see or hear well but knows this house, so neat.Busy at home so not sobad, here lots of quiet time. Darn.

It sounds like you had a lovely and sweet marrige. It sounds like your husband is very much with you in spirit. Love never dies it just transforms. My thoughts are with you.

Our lake cabin was a place my wife and I went together to be alone and away from all the stuff we needed to do at home. I could not bear to go there for the first 6 months. A neighbor took care of the place for me. Finally I went and my youngest son came with me. It was horrible.A month later my oldest son and his family came to stay for a week. I spent lots of time alone on the dock with tears in my eyes. A year later I can go to the cabin and not feel real bad. I know I will not use the place like we used to, but at this time I can't think about selling and hope my kids will take more interest and make it worth keeping.

We didn't have a cabin to go to, but we had a place that was in different places. There were trips, cruises, and weekend getaways. Sometimes we were gone for a few days and other times longer. My favorite was in Massachusetts where I always found a sense of peace and renewal. I fled there soon after the service and the pain followed me. I returned in a few months later and the pain again came too.
The good news is that the serenity I felt in that small village on Boston's north shore once again soothes my heart. The place hasn't changed much, but I have. Sharon

MJ I hope you are right that it gets better. I have had lots of tears this week, really missing him right now. Darn.

My husband and I have a vacation home also about 4 hours away. When he got diagnosed with cancer we rented it out for a year because we knew we couldn't get down there as much. A couple of months after Rick passed away the tenants wanted to leave to go back to school. I also am not inclined to sell or rent out again. I am using it again as a vacation home and feel Rick's spirit everywhere. I know I'll need to downsize one day, but for now enjoying the serenity of the cabin with our 2 dogs.

    My mom passed away on June 18th. I was her cargiver and only child. Although she was 89 years young and it was "expected" I don't know how to BREATHE without her. I stay busy throughout the day but I can only do that so long until I burn out! I'm all alone now and don't know what I'm going to do!! I can only fake it for so long. I'm TIRED of losing my people!!!!
