I apologize to those who don't care for poetry but it helps me to sort out my feelings.....

My Valentine

I dropped a friend off at her house tonight.
Her husband opened the garage door for her to enter as we arrived.

I thought, How sweet! followed by the revelation, I was loved like that!
Yes, I was. You loved me more then I needed and, yet, at times not enough.

Isnt that the way relationships are supposed to be?
Give and take.
Give all and then withhold because you need to be whole yourself?

Although it didnt always appear so, I loved you with every fiber of my being;
I know to the depths of my soul that love was returned.

You will bring me no flowers this year, or ever again.

Valentines Day is a day that I have been dreading, but I find myself recalling the wonderful memories we shared on this day.

I hold your flowers in my heart; your gentle face
shines out of their beauty and I feel the warmth of your love.

Happy Valentines Day, Jim. The heavens may have what I physically cannot hold but you are with me forever.
