This is my first vacation from work without my husband. Didn't think it was going to be so hard. I am staying home and doing things that I have let build up around the house. We always did all these chores together and it is tough on my motivation knowing I am doing it by myself. If I let myself I would just sit and not do anything, but I have to remember that I have to depend on myself now. I guess what I miss the most is the conversations we had about all the stuff we would do together. It has been almost six months and I still have a real hard time with the silence in the house. Maybe one day the silence wound be so heavy in the house.

A vacation by train is a great way for a single person to get away from it all and meet new people. Everyone is friendly and you can eat and drink and sleep according to your budget!

I'm kind of dreading taking a vacation by myself. Wouldn't be fun without my wife. Sort of moot for the moment, since I used up nearly all my leave time...

I hear you. Not sure when i will take another trip. My late husband and i traveled quite a bit the last 10 years and i can't imagine doing it without him. As for all the stuff that needs doing,,,I am watching it pile up. It will be six months for me too. Somethings are easing a bit but the silence gets to me too. I have never lived on my own. hugs Patti

My wife loved animals. We had a cat named Simba. I talk to him all the time these days when I am at home. Simba likes to sleep, so while I would like to talk to him, he is napping all the time. I live in the same house and I feel my wife's spirit. I talk to her sometimes....but not as often as I want because I think she is at peace, and I don't want to bother her with trivial. But if I really need some help, I asked her and she always answered....in my heart and to my heart. Hugs, Tiger

At a Widow's meet-up group, one of the women mentioned the Women Travelling Together website. It is for women traveling alone. Everything is all planned out, like tours, hotels, etc. You just need to pay and get yourself to the destination.
I googled "Women's Travelling groups" and found several that cater to singles, or women and even "women over 50". Barcelona or Japan anyone? I may want to start off with New England. Might be nice to just get away and this sounds pretty easy.
But I need to get this probate thing settled first...
