I'm sorry that happened, for lack of a better term it's called "getting broadsided", they seem to come out of nowhere. It happens.

I went through that when our grandson graduated and when he became Eagle Scout. The ceremony they gave grandparents pins. It was hard on him, and me. He was living with us, when he started scouts. We went to all the meetings when he began. (his mom was in the guards and lived elsewhere) His father lived with us.

I know that feeling, hits you hard. Happens to me often.

I am so sorry - that must have been very hard. I had something similar at 7 months. It was my younger son's high school graduation. My sons are both on the autism spectrum, and it had been hard work to get him to graduation, and I had to finish the job without Cliff. On his graduation day, all the other parents were there, and I just cried through the whole danged ceremony - like 2+ hours of it. I got a lot of weird looks.....

I hope all the plans go well for the wedding. I don't think I could have coped with a wedding that early on, especially one so close to me. I avoided even wedding showers the first year.

Julie, that was such a sad reminder of what you're world will be like the day your son gets married.

It will be a very difficult and wonderful time for all of you. YOU will represent both of you. YOU are the strength of two.

Carry something of him; his ring, watch, something that will remind you of him and give it to your son. Let your son know that his Dad is here today and will ALWAYS be with all of you.

You will make it through this. Our first grandchild was born 6 days after my husband died and my younger daughter got married without her daddy to give her away two months later. It was so very difficult, but I made it through for sake of my daughters. It was so hard on us all. I drifted through it all in a fog. We are all much stronger than we thought.
