My wonderful husband had been sick for over three years and the last four months I could see he was declining. So intellectually I knew the end was coming but it was still a huge shock. It's been two weeks, I'm miserable and still break into tears several times a day. People keep telling me it will get easier. Wonder when that will be.

I am sorry for you loss. I lost my husband of 36 years 4 years ago. He was a part of me and when he died a huge part of me died with him, I feel like i am on this never ending journey of finding out who i am now. In time though life gets to be alright but will never be the same but you change and how can you not ?you are finding new parts of yourself that you never knew were there. I had to go to work full time but this job i have has saved me from total misery. Life will be different but you learn how to cope ( Hugs)

I lost my husband 6 years ago. Does it get better? Somewhat. I let myself mourn. Someone told me life is like getting in a car and looking out the windshield - that is your life going forward. Looking in the rearview mirror is your life that was. Always remember the rear view mirror but God wants us to always look forward, thus the bigger windshield. Hugs.

Kathleen, my heart goes out to you. My wife is gone for about 2 months now and I had the 4 or 5 years of the Parkinson's to watch her go through. I, like yourself took care of her along with aids and my daughter. I also knew what was coming. That didn't help. We had 36 years together and I wish I could tell you a time frame but no one can. That's up to you. What I have found that helped me a little was writing. I sat down and went through the last years as much as I could remember. Personally I found myself lacking in some regards but when I looked a little harder I found the good things that I did do for her along the way. No lie it was very hard to get started and emotionally very difficult with a lot of tears. The writing is my key, so to say, to moving on. I believe that we all have a key. We just need to find it and not be afraid to use it. I hope that this helps, only time will tell.
