I finally finished piecing the tie quilt blocks together and my friend is helping me to send it out for machine quilting. It is a special quilt made with my husband's tie, for my next grandson that is arriving next month. He will never know his grandpa but he will have this quilt from grandpa and me, grandma.

I read some of you here made changes in the house or bedroom since the love ones passed. I didn't make any changes yet and perfectly fine with everything the way it was. Then I thought what would I change when I eventually move out of the house? I thought of Dolly Parton's song, Coat of Many Colors. I looked at my husband's shirts and gave me the idea that I should turn his Hawaiian shirts and dress shirts into a bed spread quilt. It will cover me and hug me while I sleep.

Silverfox, what a beautiful way to keep your husband close and to pass a special gift from him on to your Grandson. My grandmother use to quit and I have some of her beautiful quilts, I am sad to say, I did not inherit her talent. I hope you will share a photo of the quilts when completed, I know I would love to see them.

That is a great idea and what a great memory it would be for you. That has got me thinking. I just might take some of Don's shirts and do a body pillow cover for myself. I think i could manage that much sewing. Thanks for the idea Silverfox and I would love to see pictures too, of your quilt when you finish it, Lucy

I had my husband's ties made into a quilt as well. I bought a quilt display case and I look at it everyday. I'm so glad that I thought to do it. I had a lady that I found on ebay who did all the work. I merely supplied the ties.

Thank you all, I am very excited to see the finished quilt. It is not my best sewing but it is such a special project and I am just happy that I accomplished it with the help of my friend. I will definitely post a picture of it when it's done.

The baby's tie quilt has been completed and ready for viewing in my photos section. Unfortunately I don't know how to make the image bigger.

I love mine! They are 12"x12" wall hangings - one for each of our kids, grandchild and 2 for me. Each tie dictated the type of background fabric. The lion face tie has a safari background, Nascar has a checkered background, fish tie has a stream, etc.

At nearly 6 years out I still have a need, want & desire to touch them - gives me the feeling of placing my arms around Bob's neck!

I hope yours provides you with much needed comfort.

What a lovely tribute to your husband, a wonderful gift for your grandson and loving memories for you. Your tie quilt is beautiful. I have a gazillion of my husband's ties. I like the idea of a quilt ... thanks for sharing.

I am just glad to have created one thing for my new grandson from his loving grandpa's collection of ties. This child will never get hugs from my husband or any grandpas. My husband loved children but met the untimely death. This child's other grandpas are dead beat dads to my son-in-law. My son-in-law had never experienced love from his father so he respected my husband who had treated him like our son.

Actually, you're more productive than I was!

My tie quilts weren't made till I was 3 years out. If I would've attempted that in your time frame, I probably would've cut the blocks crooked or buggered all over them or worse yet, sewn over my fingers - LOL!

Besides, back then I just wanted to die. My body just wouldn't give up life, so I've learned to roll with the changes - learned to laugh at many things and take heart with others -

I have seen quilts made from shirts, and heard about teddy bears being made from shirts, but had never seen a tie quilt before. Congrats on the grandbaby, too!

Such a great idea.

One of my friends from work made me a quilt from my husband's shirts, and a couple of pillows from them as well.

I sleep with it every day, and am so grateful for this beautiful gift.
