When I joined my social club I mentioned that I was a widower and I was tired of greiving all the time and that I had to learn who I was. I said that I needed to discover who I was. Since I wrote that 3 other widowers have joined. This group wasn't started out as widow/er support group. there r a lot of other people in the group that haven't lost there other half. I am thinking about starting a widow/er support group locally cause a lot of people are apparently looking. I don't want to lead it or anything. I just think that it would help a lot of people. If anyone knows of a support group in the Jackson TN. area please message me. But if I cant find one should I go ahead and see about starting one?

Drew, why don't you set it up as a Meet-up group on meetup.com? Keep it somewhat social, and see where it goes from there. If the group evolves into something that needs more serious support group kinds of organization, you can address it then, and you can get feedback here, too.

There weren't any face-to-face groups I could get to, and not even my faith community had one, so in desperation I Googled, and that's how I wound up here at DS!

I think it's great you have had a response from others in a similar situation. Keep us posted, okay?

Have you given Hospice a call? it seems like even if they don't do it themselves, they should know of widowers support groups.

If they don't, then I'd go the meetup.com route. I wonder if hospice would have any thoughts on forming an informal group? The local (to me) group meets at different restaurants and diners once a month or so. [That's all I know about them- I've never attended one.]

drew, the grief support group I went to, is put on by hospice, is in the Westtennessee healh group by the corner by K-mart. There is a counselor there, but when I went in, she said I was too young...duh.... 64...... there are two other ladies in there 85, and 75...... i went to the one in the daytime, there is another group meets 6-7 evenings, she said i might fit in better there....hospice org.
