I'm sorry you are going through such a hard time. I understand what it is like to love someone who is an addict...my husband was addicted to cocaine and heroin for years, and alcohol, and this is what led to the disease that took him from us. Personally, I'm addicted to codeine, and have been for 20 years...I'm up to about 10 - 14 tylenol #3/day..(.I also smoke a fair amount of weed, but I feel that is actually better for me than most prescription drugs)..in fact, I wish my husband had stuck to cannabis, instead of the garbage he was into.What we have to remember is that addiction is a disease, and the addict really doesn't have a lot of control over their addictions. Even when they intend to quit, something always seems to get them going again...I tried and tried to get my husband off the drugs..we nearly lost him several times over the years due to overdose...he actually stopped using needles and crack a couple of years before he died, but was still snorting. All you can do is keep loving her and always be there, as you are now. Keep trying, never give up, and never blame yourself...After awhile, I just resigned myself to 'ignoring' it and praying that he wouldn't die...sadly, he ended up with Hep C and cirrhosis, which led to liver disease and cancer, and it was liver failure that basically killed him.
Again, I'm so sorry for your loss of your husband, and for your daughter's addiction issues...I know how devastating it is, and how helpless we are to help them. And as an addict myself, I also know how hard it is to quit, especially in the wake of tragedy. take care, Wendi

Hi Gail, I am so sorry. I know first hand the devastation that comes when your child turns to drugs. Our son got into shooting up cocaine and heroine - became a hard core drug addict. For 10 years we prayed for him - and his last year of addiction was spent banned by me from ever stepping foot again in our house until he got himself fixed. Well, he got delivered of those demons, got born again, found a wonderful wife, and gave us 3 blessed grandkids. He finished college, went on to get his Masters degree, is a prominently published poet, is teaching full time in a University, and they just bought their first house. So never give up on your daughter -- prayer can do mighty things. God can turn her around - but that is her choice. God bless you Gail ~ Scott

Gail, I'm so sorry for the struggles that you're going through with your daughter.

The burden of grieving for our mates is big enough without any extra "stuff" to have to worry about.

My heart goes out to you. To have so many extra problems to deal with on top of grief and working a full time job....I just can't imagine how life is for you right now.
How are you coping? I was wondering if you have family support or outside support.
