Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

Grief is not linear, so there is a lot of bouncing until our emotions become more stable. We are all different, there is not set time. Don't compare yourself to someone else with a different set of circumstances. We all will get through this and go on with our lives. I know it isn't easy, but that is what we must do. I think it may be hard to look back and see how far we've come and we even become impatient with ourselves--but I think by the second year, we have made a lot of progress.
I much prefer how I am now to how i was even a few weeks before the sceond anniversary when i couldnt stop crying... it was too much pain...Blessings Debbie:)
The first year I was sooo upset when I didn't hear from friends. I wanted to be with and talk to other people - didn't like eating alone, etc. But now - I find I like to be alone more than I did before - guess I have gotten to accept it.

First year...get by.
Second year...get busy.
Third year? I'm actually a little excited to get there and see what it brings.
The reality was that things had been getting better, I was coping better, accepting my new life without my love. So then when that first year passed it was disappointing, there was no catharsis, no breakthrough.
Again, for me, I am not finding the second year harder, just different.

I liked that - it makes a lot of sense to me. I'm in my fourth year - will hit the 4-year anniversary in November. It does get easier, hang in there. Love and Hugs, Martha
