As some of you know my husband passed away this past Nov. 14th, 2015. I'm still dealing with a lot of emotions. I had this past weekend off and just can't stay here for long periods of time in our home. It's too painful for me. So I left Saturday morning and had gone to stay with some friends about an hour north of us. They've been a god-send. They no naught of my pain but they do not judge and let me do and feel the way I need to feel. But, are there to help reel me in when I start to spin out of control.
When I came home Sunday evening I checked the mail. I'd gotten a gold plated Dove with my husbands name, birthday and the day he'd passed from the Funeral home. I'd only had a viewing since he didn't even want that but I'd done the viewing for at least the family an friends since it had - happened so suddenly. It all turned out good thankfully!
The other was from the Life of Donation group in Toledo, Ohio. We are both donors and unfortunately, parts of him couldn't be donated because he'd been without oxygen for too long. Plus, of course his heart was broken. However, other parts of him were donated. I got the letter stating my husbands Cornia's or however the hell you spell it - were successfully transplanted into another person. I cried because I loved his eyes, those deep sea blue that made you swim. He turned me to goo every time he looked at me with them. I told his best friend of 40 plus years and his girlfriend last night. They had both stood up for us at our wedding back on Aug 12th, 2007. My girlfriend had stated, I hope a guy or a lesbian got them, because some have stated (donors) that they've seen things through new eyes. My husband was a tinker, and got distracted easily with shiny things, spicy foods and forgive me ladies - be was a total boob guy! The guys here would respect that - he'd grab a feel whenever he could! LOL!
While this both hurts because he's gone and I know someone else has his eyes. It also gives me peace to know he was able to help someone. I'm hoping when the time is right the person will contact me. I know many of you feel the pain of the loss I'm feeling. But, a part of me is at peace knowing my husband gave the gift of sight to someone. I'm hoping to eventually hear from the organization to find out if others have gotten the gift from him as well.

My name is Laurie and my husband died suddenly from a heart attack 2 yrs ago and he also was a donor and his corneas also gave someone sight, a lady who had survived breast cancer, i got a letter from her and yes it made me happy for her, i actually got goose bumps while reading it, and yes it also made me cry as i missed him even more at that moment.
I am a donor too and its the greatest gift we can give when we die, i wish everyone who can would be a donor.
