Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was my husband's favorite holiday and I have been dreading it this year, especially since it is the first major holiday since he died in August.


Just a few years ago we had so much family in the area that it was just a question of which side of the family are we spending Thanksgiving with this year?  But in the past five years I have lost not only my husband, but both of my parents and my mother-in-law as well.  I am blessed with two wonderful sons that I enjoy a good relationship with but they both live thousands of miles away(I am going to spend Christmas with my younger son and his family.)


My friend invited me to eat Thanksgiving with her and her boyfriend and her daughter and her daughter's husband and I have accepted.  Yeah, a part of me is going to feel like the "fifth wheel" but I think I made the right decision.  Under the circumstances I think it's a bad idea for me to sit in the house alone on this, the first major holiday since his death (and his favorite holiday).


Blessings to all of us as we begin this holiday season without our husbands/wive/partners.

Hello Sylvia, I understand, Too many firsts, Too much loss, Too many changes, Too many tears.
I am glad that you will spend Thanksgiving with friends. I will spend it with family, It will still be different. I am also blessed with great children and they have been rock solid and supportive of me...

This will be my 3rd Thanksgiving without my Brian. He loved to cook and I hate it. Not to sure what I'll do this year, but I will be OK

It was The Monday before Thanksgiving that My husband Bob had a massive stroke. Turkey was defrosting in the fridge, camera was set. He loved to cook and bake and was planning his favorite recipes. I was almost ready for a fun holiday. My life changed drastically that night. On Thanksgiving day, I was signing papers for him to go to Hope Hospice. The young woman who brought them to the hospital was happily looking forward to getting home to her cooking. My heart was breaking. He passed away the following Sunday. Though it will be ten years and I have had new life experiences, Thanksgiving always stirs sad memories of that week but I am thankful for the 40 years we had. After I got through the grief process, I can say I've gone on to make pleasant holiday remembrances with our family. He certainly would want that for us but he remains in our heart always. Hi Sylvia,
whatever you are feeling right now is what I am going through because this cominf holiday season will be the first that I wil be celebrating it without my husband ,like you this is our favorite season of the year. At first I also hesitate whether I should go home ( im working overseas) this season as I really no mood and loss my drive in life but I also think that I should be brave to face that from now on will be just me & my daughter who wil celebrate . I am wishing you all our fellow widows that we will eventually healed .
