Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
It has been nearly 8 weeks since my husband died. He was a huge part of my life for 48 yrs. I met him when I was 21. Now he is gone and for the first few weeks I was a flurry of activity on the outside (going thru clothes and belongings to discard, arranging memorial, dealing with family who visited, etc.) But when things started to settle down my friends kicked in big time. Lunches out, invitation to college women's regional basketball games (they won), bridge lessons, restarted my water aerobics, went back to my women's study group, etc. These things are not overwhelming and do not take up too much time. I still have plenty of time to grieve. But, they get me outside of myself and my grief for a time. And, sometimes they allow me a little time to tell a friend how I am truly doing and to feel their compassion and caring. And, so I am very thankful for my friends.

Me and the girls had sooo much support after the accident. My husband's family (his brother was one of my best friends years before my husband and I started dating) as well as my adult son, stayed with us for the first couple weeks. In addition to that not only our close neighbors but what seemed like everyone in town (perks of being in a small town, plus my husband co-owned and managed one of the stores downtown, add that to me working for the school district and it seems like we do know everyone who lives here), was so supportive those incredibly rough first few months. Meals, special gifts for the girls, offers to watch the girls to give me some alone time to grieve, etc. We were so incredibly blessed to have that support.
However, I'll be completely honest, I was so consumed by my own grief I wasn't able to look up and see how blessed I was for all the support until much, much later.
You are such an incredibly strong woman with a good heart!
