Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
Here in Fla., there is no charge for grief groups. Hospice does charge the dying patients insurance for their work (docs, nursing, social worker etc) The hospice at the hospital my husband was at did not have much to do for him. He was in an accident and we really believed he would recover. Unfortunately, he coded after a surgery, and we had to take him off life support three days later. This is when I signed him into hospice. But because of our circumstance, they never provided much service to him.
They did provide the family with much needed support though. And I now go to a support group funded by a hospice org. Anyone can go, it doesnt matter if your loved one was serviced by them or not. It is free, but there is some paper work to fill out.
Where I am, there are many groups, some run by the different hospice orgs, some run by funeral homes. I tried a few groups before I found one that fit. Maybe you could try that.
Also, here in Fla, we have a phone resource, 211. If you dial 211 on the phone it will connect you to people that can tell you where social services are available in the county. Maybe your State/County has the same service? Anyway, I have gone on much too long. Dont give up on finding a group. Good luck!
My group had me to fill out paperwork when I first joined, but nothing since. I keep thinking that maybe I'm ready to leave the group as do a couple of the other members, but our group leader tells us that if we're still benefiting then we should stay. She also tells us that our experience is a good thing for new members to hear. Our group is mostly over 70 and I am 48, but they have all accepted me and I encourage you to give it a chance. You might make some good friends and maybe you will enjoy the face to face contact of others who understand what you've been through.
Good luck to you.

I hope you'll benefit from the meetings...I'm for any little help we can get.
