Survived first year

I made it through the first year. Like so many have said, the anticipation was much worse than the actual day. I cried many tears on the days leading up to Monday but had the good fortune to spend the day and evening with friends who could share my memories. We told our favorite stories about Randy and remembered the good times. I wasn't sure I could ever recall those times with joy again.

I was fortunate to find this site early on and I credit all the good people here for helping me begin this journey to healing. You truly provided a lifeline at those times I thought I could not survive this. Thank you for being there...Dawn

I am glad you got thorugh the day okay, and were able to talk about Randy, too. I think it takes awhile to shift the balance from thinking more about their death than thinking about their life, and I think you made an important step in that direction. The milestones are hard going, and emotional, but they do get easier to cope with. I had my 5th year in November, and each has been a time of remembrance for me.

And I am glad you found us here at DS when you needed us!

I am glad you made it through the first year anniversary with fond memories of you love one. I hope I can feel okay when the day comes. My husband's anniversary is next week and I didn't feel like coming to work at all this week. My oldest son-in-law's parents live far away, did not come to the funeral, but they are making a special trip to come to visit me and to pay respect to my husband this week close to the anniversary date. I am hit with reality that he is really gone. He had lived away from home on and off for many years so it never felt like he is completely gone. Sigh...

    I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

    Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner.  I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings.  But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!
