About 6 weeks ago I wrote in a discussion about how my 17 year old daughter knew so many who have recently committed suicide. Some were in her class at school (about 400 per class) and some were parents of classmates.
Now there have been 3 more suicides in the last week. One - a girl who was in her middle school but now was at the HS in the next town. Two - A friend who last week (senior in HS) helped put a radio in her car then two days later went out with friends and came home to find his father had hung himself. (He was an only child - no contact with mother.) Three - a VERY pretty and popular sophmore girl who was into everything - yearbook, on gymnastics with my daughter - tons of friends - always smiling - hung herself at home.
In the last two months two others (one a friend who had been at our house many times) - one hung himself - the other shot himself in the head.
It just seems so unbelievable this keeps happening - 9 or 10 within the last few years. So sad. So many parents now devastated.
Just wanted to vent - I guess.

I have faith in God and am a member of a Christian denomination. I do not understand "WHY" so many bad things happen, why children get cancer, why wars take our young men etc. etc. However, the Bible says that God will be "with us" through the tribulation of the world, and I place my trust in Him. I feel that all people - children, teens, young adults & seniors - need an anchor in this world; something to believe in; something to hold onto when the light is not visible at the end of the tunnel.
I was taught to have faith in God as a child; many today only know "God" as a strange concept or the first part of a curse word. I hope that some leaders in your community can begin a program for "suicide surviviors" or "suicide prevention" for all ages, that will help them to find comfort and peace once more. They need to know that life is worth living. Psalm 18:2 - "The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold."
