I'm posting this question here instead of on the original post because I'm not sure it would have been read.

Since I can't get two ss checks, one from my husband and one for me, does
that mean I can retire early, collecting my husband's at partial payment because I'm won't be 66 for awhile. I'm 53 now. Then can I then wait till I'm 66 and draw full retirement on mine own ss benefits?

They told me I can start collecting survivors benefits at age 60 then at age 66.5 i can either go on my own ss.or i can wait until i'm 70 for a larger amount. Hope that helps

Yes, you're exactly right. You can collect under his name starting at age 60. Then when you reach normal retirement age, you collect on your own behalf - either his or yours, whichever is larger. You can never collect on both but you do get the larger.

this was what I was told, unless you can prove to be disable then u can start drawing from it sooner than 60. I would love to be able to do it, but problem is I do not have dr papers showing I can't stand on my legs for a entire day,day after day. I have to sit and stand.
I can't pick up heavy things due to a shoulder from a car wreck, so trying to prove it is another thing.

so I have to wait for 4 more yrs..

also if you been married before, the way I've understand it and your ex ss is bigger u can start at 62 I think it to draw his.. instead of your husband or yours.
