On Feb 9th it will be 3mos that my husband passed & since then I haven't really ventured out much, other than driving locally because Im not much of a long distance driver especially alone, my husband always did all the driving if we were going anywhere far, but today I did it! there's a casino about an hour drive from me that my husband & I used to go to so I knew how to get there but never had driven & I really had been wanting to go again but felt nervous about the drive & weird about going alone, but this morning I woke up early & decided I was going to treat myself to something I really wanted to do & guess what I made it there & back safely & I actually enjoyed myself! I have to admit I teared up a few times while I was there because of some special memories we shared there, but other than that it was fine & once I got there & started walking around I realized I could do this alone & it was ok, so Im feeling good about myself tonight & wanted to share my accomplishment........................Kim

Good for you. I think that is great that you went & enjoyed yourself. That is what we must learn to do. Be on our own. Your husband would want you to go on & live your life.

I applaud you!! I lost my love a yr ago and still have a hard time getting out alone even around town. But then again, I had the same problem when he was alive. A little agoraphobic I think? You give me hope that I can learn to be braver and more independent as I continue on this journey.

Well done, Kim.
That is a huge step and you should be very proud of yourself. Like they have been telling us, it's all about baby steps and one day at a time. Good job.

yay Kim! I am so happy for you! I am with you! It took me months to begin to go places, first slowly driving to the store, and to my own doctor appointments, having been driven around so comfortably for years and then a job, and then even in the snow this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its almost 15 months and I feel I have amazed myself and I know how proud you are of yourself! its amazing doing things you just had not done thus knew not that you were good at! hope you won a bit at the casino! That was one of the first places I went when Donald died, one of his favorite places, i only played 20 dollars, in the middle of the day i enjoyed the sound of the machines and still being able to be in my own mind and I came out ahead 80 dollars....so*standing up clapping* yay!

I could have wrote that post myself, I rarely drive very far, my husband did it all. I haven't drove a hour in years. I may one day but I get so sleepy its scary.
So proud of you! Keep it up you can do it.
Its funny we can do lots of things now that we have to.

OH KIM!!!!! That is something to be proud of. I had to stay in a hotel by myself for two nights an hour away from home this past November and that was a first for me. However, I actually enjoyed myself too.

We're stronger than we realize!!!

So proud of you. I did almost the same thing, but I took a bus with 2 co-workers to a casino. I also tear up but made it through doing something without him. It is an achievment one step at a time for many of us.

Rod bought me a satnav just before he died - he said it was to help me go places when he wasn't with me.
It took me a long time to get enough courage to use it but now I always have it with me and feel that he is with me too helping me get to different places.
