I also live on a farm. My husband always took care of it with some help from me. I know how bad the isolation feels. Ron has been gone 6 weeks today. The idea of someone not getting to you if you need help also scares me. I have one daughter that lives in the next town but her and her husband both work. I'm trying to find some words of comfort for you but just know that I am thinking of you today and wishing you some comfort. Brenda

Yes I hate days like that. Especially knowing we have no one in a emergency. We really have to be careful and look out for ourselves now. I don't have snow but its been raining & storming for days.
I hope you will carry a cell phone in case of any problems.

Yes, nowjustme, having a cell phone with me at all times is an absolute rule with me. I have about 3 acres that I care for and have animals, so I am frequently outside alone. I, too, fear getting older, having less balance along with wobbly steps due to arthritis. However, we are not the first people to experience this. Also, what is going to happen is going to happen. After we have taken all the precautions that we can, it is out of our hands. That is when I say to God, OK, you allowed Joe to die, I have taken all the precautions I know of, so this is on you, whatever happends. I believe God will rescue me no matter what happens. I don't mean he will save me from an episode of injury, but that he will be with me and his will will be done. I have learned to accept the increased risks of being alone. It is what it is. Millions of people have done what we are doing now. It will be OK.

I live in a rural area but always was enticed by the thought of living more separated from neighbors. Guess that was before I was totally alone. Now I see the down side, but there is no perfect place so we settle where is best for us. Take care and be safe. Sharon

I also live out from town (10 miles) though not on a farm, and I am fortunate that I have a few people around me, but I fret sometimes about falling or the like and not having anyone right there. Vern always did the driving (he loved to drive and I loved to ride and gawk...perfect setup) but now it's all different. After 48 years there are some habits that you wish you didn't have to break, eh?

We have about 10-11" of snow here and if the electricity holds out, I'll do okay...shoot, I'll do okay anyway, but would miss the convenience. We all, I think, come to the place where we start to think about the being alone after having your best friend and hero/ine attached to your hip for all that time, and although I know what you're going through now, I have to echo the words..."...it will get easier...".

I'm glad you're here. We may be long-distance, but our hearts couldn't be much closer. Hang in there and give Time a chance...I wasn't sure of that at first (he's been gone a year and a half now), but I have found that it's true. Time and baby-steps and these lovely souls here at DS...lean on us whenever you need to.

We always loved those "snow days" also. I hope that this day brings you some warm happy memories along with that sadness and worry that comes from her not being there with you to share it.
