It may need to be reset or replaced. Call your local fire department on their business line, not 911. They don’t just take care of emergencies.Most are very helpful and will talk you through it or even come out and get it working properly again.

Mine was chirping just last week. It is annoying.
I took out the battery. (Need to replace it though) or buy a new one. They are inexpensive.

Looks like i will be calling the FD, since my landlord isn't responding. Replacing the battery didn't do the trick. I went to Circle K at 6 this morning and bought a brand new battery, since the ones I found here were expired. Still didn't calm it down. I was thinking that I could flip the breaker switch, but they aren't labeled. I would have to do them all. Thanks.

I am waiting for the fire marshal to call back. The receptionist said that if the smoke detector is 10 years old, it is probably needing replacing - that they have a lifespan. I think this duplex was built in 2002. My landlord must have gone to Arkansas or somewhere for summer vacation. i have lived here a year and had zero maintenance other than landscaping.

You have to make sure the little light is solid green. There should be a reset button but also the batteries can be finicky sometimes you have to get them in there just right. My nemesis, these stupid fire alarms.

My sister said she would have yanked it out of the ceiling by 5 A.M. It could be that I did something wrong, but I tried 4 different batteries and pushed that button in the center. I would rather be safe than sorry. I don't want widow's fog to become widow's smoke. I will at least give the neighbors some excitement in a little while. I am supposed to have company this evening, and the baby is partially deaf, wears a hearing aid, so this would not be good.
