I know it is not much of an achievement but it is to me.
I came back home from Australia earlier this week and I am still suffering from jet lag so I was up at 3:30 am (London time) and looking at my iPad when my side lamp blew up. I thought I t was the bulb and I changed it (at least I knew how to do that). Nothing. I thought I have to get through with this. I went to get screw driver, spare fuse - took me a while to locate the said items - and I tackled the task. A bit of fiddling about with the plug but finally, all done. Light back on!
I know it is nothing much but I was so proud of myself because there are two things which scare me and that is my car and the electricity. I never had to deal with either of these when my husband was alive and after that I always asked for help from professionals. My youngest daughter told me a while ago to stop throwing money at problems and to try to sort out what I can myself. So this is why I am so unreasonably proud of myself.

Your daughter is right! You can save so much money by fixing the smaller jobs yourself. It becomes quite a hobby, doing the research then, actually Fixing the problem. Certainly gives me a sense of accomplishment !

The first time I changed the filter on my furnace ,like you I was extremely proud. It is as easy as pulling it out and sliding a new one in but I anticipated the job to be so much worst because I had never done it before. We are certainly having to conquer so much and forget that we have conquered the worst and should not sweath the small stuff.
I do my own garden, something that we did together. like you I am proud of myself. Saves a lot of money and not to mention it very therapeutic.
Ladies and men on DS lets keep it going, for our love ones who have gone.
