Losing a spouse is a traumatic event. When a similar feeling has a thread tied to that feeling (loss of love, companionship and trust) it pulls the feeling back to the surface.

I think when you get your hopes up and find disappointment there is a sort of "grief" you suffer. The loss of this relationship reminds you of the relationship you lost when you lost your husband. The two are tied together yet separate. Don't give up on yourself and think that you are back at the start, acknowledge the disappointment you have in this relationship not progressing like you may have wanted. Know that the grief you feel in the los of your husband will always be there in some capacity through the years regardless of being in a relationship or not. Now you are thinking that you are alone again...you were brave to take a chance on love. Use this as a lesson not a discouragement. Best wishes.

I've had a similar experience. Started dating someone from my past at the 3 year mark and after 2 years it too ended. Is there such a thing as ended "Good"? Any way, just before I hit the 5 year mark I sought out grief counseling and was glad I did. The break up didn't come till after my counseling but the pain that came with it and which I'm still experiencing is very real and intense. We can't ignore the feelings of loss no matter the source. I'm so sorry you are going through this.

I also felt like this after a relationship ended badly. It made me question if Im ready yet, was this the wrong person or Im not able to truly feel something for someone else yet. aI also questioned if I had unresolved grief issues but decided not to seek out counseling. I think any loss reopens our wounds to some degree.

I know that it must be hard, especially for those that are young & have a lot of years ahead of them. I will be 62yrs in Aug and was married 38yrs to the love of my life. I lost him just over a year ago. and
I have now doubt what so ever, there will Never be another person in my life. Larry was the love of my life & no one can replace him...

I think the fact you are considering seeing a therapist suggests it's a good start. If nothing else it can help you sort out your feelings and thoughts. I believe in counseling services, the most important part is make sure you relate to the person or try someone else. Sharon

I really think that there is no such thing as "too late" for therapy. I do not think we realise the depth and serious nature that grieving . a loss of a life partner can be, We cannot manage on our own, and indeed we should use all the help we can get.

A loss of your love forever is a tough grief you work through.

Starting another relationship is a great step to finding happiness with another love to share. A risk at times could be but just trying is still a great step. If it ends for whatever reasons - you must feel good you tried. If this loss triggers your grief and you are acknowledging it counseling is certainly a good step for resolution.
