For those of us who have been coming to this site for awhile, we notice that occasionally a topic will be brought up that has already been brought up months ago. This does not mean that the oldtimers are re-hashing the same old thing. We must remember that new people are coming here every day and are experiencing things that the oldtimers have already worked through. For this forum to truly be comforting to the bereaved, we must be willing and courteous to allow and, yes, encourage discussions on any topic related to being a widow or widower even if the topic may have been discussed previously. We must never forget how we were hurting when we first came here, and we must create an environment that everyone will feel safe entering into. Thanks for listening to what was on my heart.

Great post....yes we all are on a different time line and people need to be able to come here with where they are right now without worrying that they will repeat an old post. We were all there once ourselves...and it was new for us then too.

As a newbie, I appreciate this. Even in my work, I sometimes feel myself getting impatient with new customers...."Why don't they know this? I've told so many people just like this hundreds of times before....doesn't everybody get it by now?" I have to stop down and remind myself that not everybody knows, and I appreciate it when you veterans are patient with my newbie-ness!

I've been coming here for almost 15 months, just a couple of weeks after bigbear died, so I consider myself a newbie as I'm still learning new things everyday and yet I feel like it's been years...having learned a lot of things. Some days are good, some days are so-so and other days are the pits......to the newbie's: time does help, it will get easier ( can't say better as I've talked with a friend who's husband has been gone over 20 years and she says life is easier not better) with work, lots of work, even when you don't feel like doing the work, do it and there will be days that life sucks big time. To the oldtimers: me personally, I think we can all learn something, more compassion and even help dealing with my sorrow from the newbies....even if it's just to give the newbies a shoulder to lean on, some advice if they want it and hopefully give them hope that life will get easier with time. And knowing that none of us know how much time we have on this earth, I'm trying to live life to the fullest for bigbear and myself.
