Like rabbit's feet?? Or instead of swearing maybe? There's always stuff that's due or has to be done on the 1st of the month (house payments, bills, etc.). Cliff would always mimic his mother and say "Hell's bells!" It was a funny way of remembering her - we lost her to breast cancer years ago. She was funny, and he was funny mimicking her. I still miss them both...

No one else knows the meaning without her. they may know some traditional meaning, but not Glenda with YOU.
If I were in your place, I would treasure the spirit & attitude that she said it with...you know that intimately.
Heck, we had family stuff which other hearers had NO clue about. Words are not The Thing. Memories are.
I would just remember it on the First Day of each month, on it's own merits from her..
Rick, I am sorry you are facing so many new firsts without her. Hold onto what it is for you both together. You still do know that because you know HER and you shared it for decades worth of months..

I have never heard that ‘saying’ before, so I have no clue what she could’ve meant. But, it did make me smile and think about your Glenda, Rick. I hope that you are beginning to smile as memories come to mind and not just feel that stab of pain. As I think of my husband, I find myself smiling more these days. Take care, Linda
