I purchased paper white bulbs as a kit and found my mood lifted when they bloomed.

Wish you were close I need to get rid of a bunch of mine...

I just bought a plant to replace a poinsettia that just died from Christmas. Although I haven't done well with house plants in the past, I'm thinking of getting a couple more. You are right, they do make it cheerier.

Maybe I will try some plants. Sadly, my husband was the only one that could get anything to grow, he used to jokingly call me the plant killer. But, I will try again. It could be a good thing. Thanks for the idea. Hugs, Dawn

I love plants too, but am not good at watering them in the winter and only have three. One of them is from Mike's funeral, so I make sure to water it. I've been buying flowers for my table to liven up the house. Trader Joe's has beautiful bouquets that are reasonably priced.

I love plants. Before Jerry's service my girlfriend bought me 4 orchids for the house - (in Florida they sell them by the road). They aren't fussy at all. Guess what - Jerry will be gone two years in March - they are going to bloom - all of them. I find that so weird. I also bought herb gardens for holiday gifts, and got one for me - parsley, chives, calentro, and basil. It was the ''As Seen on TV'' garden - they are growing from seed!!! Jerry always bought me a ''Growers Bunch'' at Costco and I cut the stems, eliminated the ones that died, and nursed those puppies so well, they lasted more then a month.

I used to love plants. I am having a hard time remembering to water them. I have some of those glass globes that you put in to auto water the plants I hope my plants will soon perk up now that they aren't totally dependent on me to get them water.

Aww... The Plants I had these 5 Plants in a basket from my bestest brothers funeral... I nursed and nutured those babies... for quite some time can't tell you how many times they were transplanted ... 2 actually were small trees. I made it my mission to keep them alive... even after the love of my life ... my Husband died... until I guess I was still in shock and sometimes swear I still am... then came the dreaded day when I couldn't even water them... as it just took to much energy! So while I do know they did brighten up the home I just didn't have the energy and still don't ....I have tried but failed... so I wish you well they really are pretty to have ... just remember to water them and talk to them you'll get a lot of joy if you so try! I love plants but like many others i forget to water them. I bought some of the glass globes and forget to put the water in them. There are a few I try hard to keep alive. One was from my bff's when my son died. 2 are ones sent to Bob during his many hospital visits and one is from my quilt guild when he passed. These are 4 of several others that give me the most problems for some reason.

I am waiting for a house plant to arrive in March. It is a dolphin plant. The blooms are red and are in the form of dolphins. When the plant is in full bloom, they appear to be swimming. Cool!

I received plants as memorial gifts when Cliff died. I hated them. They were one more g-d thing to take care of at a time when I was already on complete overwhelm. I kept them for a long time as an acknowledgment of the care and concern they symbolized, but I have to admit that when I finally gave them to a friend I was so relieved to get rid of them. I love flowers and plants, but I hate taking care of them, and now I know I will NEVER send plants to a grieving widow in case their reaction is the same as mine was.

The tropical paradise motif for your bird room sounds good. Can you keep a bird of paradise plant where you are?

Unfortunately, I can't keep the Bird of Paradise plant because the leaves are poisonous. I've got several plants already that are too, so I'm limiting new ones. I have to keep it a distance away from the bird because he may try to eat them.

It is a beautiful plant, though.
