I would love to do that but I can't even figure out how to put on an avatar.

I'm a computer illiterate also! My daughter tried to help & she had trouble w/my new Mac. She does pics from her computer all the time even sends them to me. Are Macs that much different? I also have an ipad i'm trying to figure out. This "widow brain" goes completely numb on the computer. I feel fortunate when I can get my emails & check in on DS!

I have pretty much always kept my favorite picture of my dear Paul, as my profile picture.

Sadly that is one of my biggest regrets. I have NO digital photos of my husband. We were never really big picture takers and didn't even own a digital camera until a year prior to his death and he would never use it. We traveled quite a bit and tooks lots of vacation photos and most of those were "off the wall" but seldom of us, but the last 6 years we worked too much and never TOOK the time for photos. Now I take pictures of everything!

About pictures of my beloved...I had to put away even our wedding picture for present time, not forever. But being at home 24/7 after surgery, just seeing his pictures made me feel even sadder and I realized I needed to stop dwelling on my loss. Anyone else have that feeling (the need to put away pictures)??

I don't have photos of my Robert as my avatar, I think that would make me too sad. I do have his pictures around the house. I feel that does help me. He never liked pictures of people on the wall because he felt that made him feel as if the people were dead. I do have a family one of us on the wall and photos of him and my sons around the house. It gives me comfort. It has been 2 and 1/2 years and I still and always will miss him.

I understand tpoulos what you mean. I haven't as I am just not sure he would want it. He was rather private. I have to emphathize with phillygirl. For the first two months all I did was look for signs of him-photos, old receipts of things we purchased together, messages of him on my phone. Now I am tempted to look at these but find myself pulling back. It is just too painful to look sometimes.

To "lostcookie" - Not so much for us, but for you - if you have older photos you could scan or have them scanned so they could be digital for you. Just a thought/suggestion - I would guess (hope!) someone in your life could help you with that. Take care.

"How do I add or change my main image (avatar)?
Select Edit, next to My Profile. Then click Update Photo.
After you click Update Photo, you have two choices:
To upload an avatar from the DailyStrength gallery, click on the avatar you like, then click the Done button.
To use your own avatar, click the Browse button, and select an image from your computer. Then click the "Upload Avatar Image" button. You will now see your personal avatar with a dotted line box over it. This is your selection box, so that you can choose which part of the image you would like as your avatar. Move your mouse cursor anywhere inside the box, then hold down your mouse key and drag the image to make your selection. You can also change the size of the box by moving your cursor to the corner until your cursor arrow becomes diagonal. Now click and hold your mouse button, then move your cursor diagonally to resize the box. You will see a small version of how your avatar will look below. Once you have made your choice, click the Done button.

How do I add photos or other images to my Photos
Go to My Profile, scroll down to Photos and click Add Photo. Or from your Home page, click Add Photos.

How do I change privacy settings for a photo?
Go to your Photos page and click EDIT under the photo you'd like to change. On the following page, choose from EVERYONE, JUST MY FRIENDS, or JUST ME and then SAVE.

How do I delete a photo?
Go to your Photos page, and select Remove underneath the photo.

How many photos can I add?
You can add up to 100 of your favorite photos (maximum file size is 1.5MB) to your My Photos section and share them with other members. Sharing photos with other members is a great way for them to get to know you better. Large photos will be resized to a maximum of 600 pixels.

What kind of image formats can I use?
You can add GIF and JPEG formats to your DailyStrength Photos section.

What do I need to do to make sure my avatar looks its best?
Start with an avatar that is in a vertical 4:5 "portrait" format (imagine taking a picture with your camera turned on its side) and approximately 160x200 pixels. Square or horizontal "landscape" images will require more cropping and might not give you the best results. An image that is smaller than 160x200 will automatically be enlarged to fit, sometimes giving you a fuzzy or "pixelated" image. If the image is too narrow, either too tall or too wide, cropping will be difficult and your image will suffer.

Where do I report an offensive photo?
Write us, and include a brief description and the member's name.

Why do I see two avatars sometimes in the Recent Activity section?
When you see two avatars with an arrow between them, it indicates that the member who has the avatar on the left communicated (for instance gave a hug) with the member who has the avatar on the right."

Usually the problem uploading photos is either (a) they are more than 1.5 MB in size or (b) they are not in a file format that can be accept (that would generally be .jpg or .jpeg or .gif).

If your Mac can save a picture in one of those formats and if it's less than 1.5 MB in (data file) size, it should load.

I usually open my photos, resize it and then save it as a copy with a slightly different name - you can just add B to 2 to the name - so that you keep the original file intact. Then you upload the scaled down version.

A lot of printers are digital scanners and come with software which can scan your old photos, and even fix the faded color in them, etc. The Epson printers are particularly good for that, and I found that easy to use. I think most of us here were married long before digital photos were standard, so the early stuff is usually having to be scanned.

I don't put up a picture of G on the main boards, because he too, was a private person, But I do have my favorite picture of the two of us in my profile pics. ANYONE who wants to see him just friend me, and you you can see him. the two of us at a very happy time! that's the one i love to remember, the two of us so happy.

I never refuse a friend, so feel free!

P.S. - The first few months I could not bear to look at any pictures. Looking at what was and could never be again just demolished me. I can do it now, but it took a long time.

Also, please be mindful that your photos can be locked for privacy and I encourage you to lock them to "friends only" for privacy and safety reasons.
