My lawyer wants a list of all Funeral and Estate expenses for probate. So to find them, Ive spent forever going through all our credit card and bank statements from the beginning of the year, day he died (Feb 20) to the present. Finally finished it tonight.
It was bittersweet to see the credit card entries for the restaurants we ate at, bills for our last time together in New York City, and his favorite restaurant of all time (Eleven Madison Park), my Valentine flowers, all the wine he bought to lay away for a few years, what he bought on his last day on earth...
The last things he bought on his last day were not for himself, but for my son and his girlfriend, and his daughter and her boyfriend. He took them on a shopping spree to Costco and loaded them up with prime steaks, wine, food they wouldnt buy for themselves due to limited budgets...even flowers. Hed do this periodically for them- he was a shopper!

I am so sorry this painful task had to be done! It is heartbreaking to have to go through paperwork when we would just as soon not have to! There are just so many things that we cannot seem to avoid. Please pat yourself on the back for accomplishing this task! Be kind to you, you deserve it. Hugs and Love, Michele

I'm so sorry your having to relive all of this. Maybe this will help you with the good memories of who he stood for. Love, kindness, caring, and empathy...Just remember your "doing it". big hugs carla

I am so sorry for your loss. My wife passed on Feb 13th 8 months today. She had her own business and took care of all of our finances. She was also 8 years younger than me and we always joked she would be taking care of me in my old age. It was a big learning curve for me to take hold of all the finances and I wish now I would have been more involved in he process. I had to shut down her business as well as figure out all of our bills and bank business. Going through all of our bank statements was bitter sweet for me as well. Remembering what we had done or places we had gone on any given day was so hard. I empathize and wish you the best. ~Pete

I am sorry for your loss. I am still going through paperwork for the loss of my husband and my father they died a day apart this past August. We still don't know my husbands cause of death. One of my friends on this website told me it took her 6 months to get a official cause of death for her husband. Wow I really hope I don't have to wait that long. I feel your pain with the paperwork.
