You are right and it's not exclusive to online dating. In this world we all need to be vigilant when meeting new people. Some feel we are easy prey to those who looking to deceive.

Dr. Phil did a couple shows on women being scammed and all I can say is how can someone be so stupid.

As for on line "dating", I do not consider talking with someone on line to be a date. Call me old fashioned for being a young woman, but where is the dinner, movie, bowling, whatever. That is a date. Chatting is not.

I agree that chatting online is not a date...but you can meet online and then meet in person for coffee, dinner, movie. As Sharon stated it is not just online...we all have to be careful regardless of where we meet someone. God can use any method to 'introduce' two people he wants to be together...and yes that means even the internet. I met my husband online and we had real dates...we fell in love over time with each other in person...he was a wonderful man who just so happened to be found online. Implying that all online dating is bad is being judgmental and narrow minded. I feel horrible for anyone who is scammed...but you can meet someone in a coffee shop (for example) and they could scam you. Just be careful at all times.

There are scammers everywhere and they use many different tools. They will use a computer, a phone, or go door to door. you just have to be careful and exercise good judgment. I have tried online dating but I met my husband on a blind date. So you just have to be careful. if it's too good to be true it probably isn't true at all.

Money is tight so some guy will have a hard time scamming me out of 10 bucks. I might be a fool for 5 but for 10 bucks you better have a lot more to offer than just a nice voice..

I'm 73 and just a dumb farmer but even I'm not that (bleep bleep), at least not yet. Unfortunately some people must be so lonely and desperate that they just lose all common sense. I'm just sitting here shaking my head and saying WHAT? 300,000.00 dollars, WOW. They say love is blind but in this case that's not the proper word is it. Even at 70 what was she thinking. OMG.

We weren't very smart about things so there is no money here.

I'm sorry, I have to re reply to add to my previous response to this post. All though I feel my initial gut reaction is still valid, on second thought as much as the individual involved should be in control of their own actions the real problem here is that there are people out there that would do this kind of thing. It's hard for me to grasp that there are people who would stoop so low as to take advantage of people when they are doing through the most traumatising time of their live. It's those people that are the culprits here. I hope karma catches up with them, if not, God will.

I agree . . . we are grieving and "vulnerable" to many misjudgments. Even in a proper sane mind, we can be fooled, I know I have been. As for on-line dating . . . I had a year of it many years back. What a s**t show. However, I did end up making a few really good friends that are still in my life today. I guess my point is that there are good and negative elements in just about everything in life. Stay vigilant!
