I lost my boyfriend 6 weeks ago to alcoholism. We have been together for a year and a half. On NYE's he checked himself into a 30 day rehab program. Before he went into rehab, while he was away, I did everything for him. And, I would do it all over again if it meant I could have one more day with him.
Three weeks out of rehab, he relapsed. I think it was March 10th he began drinking a fifth of vodka a day. Again, I stepped up and tried everything to help him. All of this was sucking the life out of me, watching the person I loved drink his life away. He had so much to offer. A successful business, a loving family, owned a couple homes, wonderful friends... he had all the love and support that tried to help him through all of this. It just wasn't enough. He was found dead at a person's house that he met in rehab that also relapsed.
I'm 31 years old, and although I was struggling with checking out of this relationship because I knew I deserved better, I never gave up hope and I never gave up on him. I put my life on hold for him and I knew there was a good person under this terrible addiction. Although he isn't struggling anymore, I am. He was 34 years old and I would have given him my whole world. I feel so completely lost right now that sometimes I don't know how to make it through my day. Not only did I fall in love with him, but his family and friends too. And I'm not sure if its healthy for me to keep in touch with them and stay close with them, but I'm looking for every possible connection to Ryan because I am so not ready to let go of him. Any advice.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I'd see you as a widow, I don't think we have a term for those in committed long term relationships that lost their partner but you are going through the same feelings.
