New Years forever spoiled for me

Not that it ever lived up to the hype, but my husband died on New Years a year ago, so somehow celebrating seems entirely wrong. Wore my wedding ring and moped around the house. I am grateful that I don't find his ghost around ever corner in my present apartment (we moved after his accident, which eventually claimed his life). But I will have to start unpacking the dozens of boxes of his stuff I've never unpacked from the move, and am not looking forward to it.

Anne my friend I am so sorry for you. My husband as you know recently passed. He died on my Dad's Birthday. Its hard when everyone else is having fun but this day is sad for you. you are always in my prayers. hope we both find peace. hugs arlene

I know it's never good, whenever your loved one passes on an already recognized holiday, just compounds the grief. I hope your are having a bit more peace now that your in your new place. I too lost my husband in an accident, and now find I need to move from our place, as its too big for me to maintain on my own. Many blessings sent your way, much love and big hugs carla

I'm so sorry. The holidays would be tough anyway, but...and I agree, unpacking is tough.

Take your time with unpacking. It doesn't have to be done all at once. I remember taking Don's clothing out of his chest and putting them back, because the thought of not having them there was too painful. We are all in this place of loss and we're here for you. Sharon

Thank you for your responses. Most of the unpacking will be unpleasantly dirty (the moving company shoved his stuff, absolutely everything, dust & all, into the boxes), but I am really NOT looking forward to are the surprises, like the shoebox full of my letters & notes to him over the years I opened a couple of weeks ago.
Like today I decided to move music I had put on it for my hospital visits to him to another device, and I came across 'Valentine's Day by Steven Earle, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_u4roF7_Ndo) and just HAD to play it (he used to sing it to me, accompanied by his guitar). And thinking about the song he wrote me. . .
