Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I'm Sharon, one of the community leaders, along with cliffskat and marjoe. If you need anything we're here for you. Sharon
We were married for 39 years so I am trying to figure out how to live alone as an adult for the first time in my life. There are many challenges and ups and downs in those first months. I didn't find any of these widow sites until my husband had been gone for a year so the first year was extremely difficult and scary. I went for about 3 months of counseling earlier this year because I felt like I was stuck. The counseling was very helpful and now at 19 months, I am able to approach life with a little more peace.
The one thing I decided early on was that I was not going to judge myself during this time, nor allow anyone else to either since it is such a traumatic time. We all grieve in our own way and time that is ours alone and we need the freedom to follow that path.
Again, welcome, and I look forward to learning more about you!
Lol, I asked the doctors what is the highest number of treatments anyone has had - they said actually they never had anyone keep track of them before :)
The doctors and nurses at the chemo center became like family - we saw them every single week those 10 years, and they were always kind and loving in their support and care for us. I have visited the center twice since my wife died. They were happy to see me and they missed seeing my wife too. You may wish to visit them, it may do all of you some good.
