Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

"I'm F.I.N.E." comes to mind.
I had 30 years of my life with Cliff. It's not like I can erase my history. I became a widow, I did not enter the Witness Protection Program! As people get to know you, it will feel more natural to talk about your late husband. If the tears hit me, sometimes I just say, "Give me a moment - it will pass." Then I take a deep breath, dry my eyes, and keep going.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
Other times, I'll speak about him in the past tense ("My husband used to do that." or "My husband was like that too.") It's a gentle way of letting people know that he's not here anymore.
I have two jobs now. I'm working outside the home for the first time since we had our first child. I talk about my husband so much, my boss says, "I really wish I could have known your husband! He sounds like such a great guy!"
And that gives me joy.
