I was reading through the post about the shirt quilts and it made me want to share something... Shane had huge arms... years of farming, wood cutting, and all other forms of extremely physical work and lifting weights (which seemed quite redundant). He always had a problem with his shirt sleeves (especially "dress" shirts. The sleeves were always too tight, and if he was working and his muscles tightened... the shirt would rip out in the sleeves. So... about 95% of Shane's shirts had the sleeves cut off... even t-shirts.
Anyway, most who new him even slightly would tell you about those cut off sleeves of his... and they knew why! My family is extremely formal and some of them were NOT happy when the kids and I had come to a decision the night after the "visitation" at the funeral home. The kids and I knew who he was... and most could never even dream of coming close to the kind of man he was. THAT is something to be proud of. So, the kids and I made calls... sent texts... and the word spread FAST. The next day, at Shane's funeral, nearly every man in attendance (there were almost 500 people there) had the sleeves cut off of their shirts. It was, in all honesty, the most fitting tribute we could have made. He would have been impressed... he hated stodgy and uptight events.

It brought to my mind that my husband who was tall and slim, but with broad shoulders and strong arms, often had trouble with sleeves not being long enough, so he rolled up the sleeves on his (always) blue shirts. I still catch my breath if I see a man of his build in a blue shirt with rolled up sleeves.
Go girl . . you are doing the right thing to memorialize your Shane.

My Ben was tall with VERY LONG ARMS..so his shirt sleeves were always a tad too short!!

August 16th my husband and I would have been married 45 years. He passed away on March 31st this year. It is amazing that we had been together so long and I don't know where time went !! He always wore pocket tees when outside working. I do have several that I am thinking "donate" and the others I may plan a tee shirt quilt from them. I think my boys would appreciate having one. His mother could sew just like a professional !! And cook!!! man ! such a good cook.!!! She was a good woman and a hard worker all her life. She and my husband and one of his sisters are together now. His sister passed away from stomach cancer, not sure but the Dr's said it was all thru her in that area !! She has been gone abt 3 years. Her husband said the first year was tough for him and that he still misses her. She was a good girl, I miss her still.
Well, look at me, writing like it's all abt. me !!!
So glad for you sweetie, Shane sounds like a really good man and I'm glad for you. !!

My husband loved sports and still played in the Senior games. At his funeral we had his favorite hymns and then at the end everyone sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame".
