Oh your poor grandpa! You are right, he is "memorizing" as you said.

I am glad he has such a wonderful granddaughter. Somehow you will pass on a bit of your wisdom to him, and you will be there for him.

Your post really touched home for me. My parents are 86 and they have been married 67 years. I can tell they don't have too many more years left and I dread the inevitable.
It is sad that your mom doesn't really comprehend but then I am guessing she has never been a widow. So it falls to you to be the one to comfort and judging by the caring I can see in your post I can tell you will be a blessing to your Grandpa.

No my mom has never been a widow. And she keeps saying terribly insensitive things in the name of trying to understand. When Rob first died she tried to tell me she understood because of her divorce. Yeah, that didn't go over well.

My grandpa has just learned to use a computer. I plan to email him lots. I sent him a picture of my daughter grinning today. Every smile can be a blessing.

Prayers for your grandfather and grandmother. How wonderful they were together for sixty years. Such a special bond. I visit a lady in assisted living and she was also married for over 60 years and her husband passed from cancer. She tells me always how much she misses him and how she feels his presence. You bring much comfort to them both at this difficult time.

I believe we are more sensitive to loss because we truly understand the feelings. Let him have his time and just be there for him. A soft hug, a simple smile and show him love. As much as we try we can't take the grief away. So be there to support him however he needs. Sharon

I watched my grandma loose my grandpa. She had Alzheimer's so my aunt thought she wouldn't understand...... She was so wrong. All five grand daughters, my aunt and my grandma were up at the casket taking a moment. My aunt asked my grandma if she wanted to say good bye to him and she shook her head no. We all stood there in a moment of silence when my grand ma grabbed my arm and stood up from her wheelchair leaned over and kissed my grandpa while touching his hand.... I knew she understood from the start. They were together 68 years. She felt him in every way. She felt the loss. I felt so bad for her because she was alone in her mind and couldn't find a way to express it due to the Alzheimer's. I feel so bad for your family. Unfortunately your mom will see first hand what the loss does to your grandpa and she will realize how wrong she was.

Oh fuch, you are definetely right about your grandpa, you just be sure you are there for him, even if no one else is. It helps when someone else has gone through it to be there for those initial "firsts". I will be praying for peace and comfort for your grandma. Much love and gentle hugs carla

There is also something else you can do for him that's very strong and that is relate. You can relate to exactly what he is going thru. Everything you are feeling you're right he will also. You didn't say if your dad was still here but if he is your mom can't relate either.
Just stay strong and pray for them. Your grandfather will be needing you more now than before. Take care of yourself.

John Wayne answered her "I don't ever want to kiss you goodbye."
I don't believe in "Goodbye" either.
