I understand how you are feeling. My birthday is Nov.23. My husband was the only that really celebrated it. He would also wakeup give a gift and out to dinner. This year that will not happen. There will be not gift no happy birthday. Just me. I know that I will have a few tears and sad moments. So I have made a few plans. I will go to spa that day, then go out to dinner and maybe a movie. I have also taken the day before off (22). That was my mother's birthday.
This will be my new normal on my birthday. I will celebrate taking care of me

We stopped celebrating birthdays a long time ago, not really sure why. My wife was a big QVC fan. She ordered almost everything from QVC, and the last few years it was her main outlet for shopping because she did not have a lot of energy to get out.

Funny story the chemo treatments would make her loopy sometimes ( they gave her adavan - it's an anti anxiety drug so she would not throw up during chemo treatments. Anyway she would not remember things that took place the evening of her treatment. One evening she called me to the TV and asked me about a top that was on QVC and we picked out two colors and she ordered them ( they make it so easy to order by phone ).

Two days later the shipment arrives and she calls me at work telling me that someone has hacked into her. QVC account and ordered something that just arrived. I asked her "do you like the stuff"? She said yes. I said well you ordered it, lol. There was one other time she woke up in the middle of the night and did order some god-awful thing, so she started confirming orders with me after that, lol.

So what happened for birthdays is that she would order something from QVC for me and I would agree to order something that she liked on Qvc for our birthdays.

It's funny, but I kinda miss QVC being on all the time :)

Thanks to all of you. It is wonderful to share with those who understand. I am going out to dinner this evening with a group of friends and on my birthday, my daughters are taking me out. I forgot to mention that my husband's birthday is November 20th. I have saved cards from him on past birthdays and shall read them. He always put special messages in them.

Happy birthday a day early to you! I had my first birthday without my husband just a couple weeks after his passing...it was my 40th and was supposed to be special. I am glad you have plans to have fun. I am sure your husband will be watching you on your birthday. Hugs to you.

I hope you have a nice Birthday. I spent my first birthday alone. I felt so sorry for myself. I hope you celebrate and have a decent one. You deserve it.

I understand how you feel. My wife would have been 60 on Nov 4th and I know it's going to be hard. My son's birthday is the next day so I'm concentrating on that. I lost my wife in march and while I'm doing 'better', it still is so hard.

Happy Birthday I hope. I also had my birthday about 6 weeks after my wife passed. I was still in shock, my kids came over and fixed me a meal gave me some cards but, it was all surreal to me without her there. But all in all it was a good day we talked about her and birthdays passed so it was both good and bad, We are all going to have to go through these fiirsts now so I hope we can all get through them by remembering some of the good times that we had with our loved ones. Kind of like a memorial service but, positive. Since all we have are our memories now.Hope this might help but, really just thinking out loud.

The first everything is so hard. My husbands birthday was Nov 9. We always exchanged beautiful cards. I plan to pick one out and go outside to his favorite spot and burn a candle and read the card. Then I will burn the card and hope the smoke will send my message of love to him. On my birthday my brother had me come visit him and we did sightseeing and dinner. It helped me to be distracted for a little while. I am filled with dread for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I wont be able to visit any family and I don't have any kids.

I wish you comfort on this first of firsts. I honestly don't remember much of my birthday ten days after David went Home. His birthday is on the 15th of this month and our anniversary follows on the 29th. Your comment about praying for all of us shows me a glimps of the wonderful wife/mom/person you are.
