I am putting in a memorial garden for Shane. I started today, and it will take weeks to finish it. I have removed the topsoil from a 1500 sq. ft. area and leveled it all off... got most of the landscaping cloth down, but had to call it a day at about 8pm. My leg isn't 100% yet and it was screaming at me. I am hoping it will be a fitting tribute to him when it is done. I have bought many of the plants, and I am incorporating a good sized fountain as well (which will require me to run the wiring quite a distance.... YIKES). It will most certainly be worth it. I had, several weeks ago, informed Shane's family of my plans to start this today and work through the weekend and told them that I did not expect them to purchase anything but told them all they were welcome to participate in the creation if they wanted to do something in honor of him. His father called me today and told me that if I was not willing to do things their way, they were not interested in participating.
I had expected as much. I thanked him, and told him that was their choice, and to never say that I had excluded them from the event. Quite frankly, I am relieved that they will not be here. I have never been afraid of hard work, and I would prefer to work on it with just my children when they have the time, and my best friend.
There were a few projects that Shane and I were going to be doing this summer that I plan to do and include in his garden. I love and miss him so much.
