Hi My name is Gail and I lost my husband 9 years ago to a heart attack he was 55 and I had just turned 50. It has been so lonely with him gone but I am finally to a point were it would be nice to get out and meet someone to do things with and just to have a male to talk with. But at my age were do you go to meet some nice men. If anyone has any ideas I would be happy to hear them.

Hi Gail . . . welcome to our group here on DS. As you will notice, most of us are in the throes of our initial grief process and looking to meet new people is probably closest to last in our thoughts. Perhaps you can join another group that can give you dating / meeting advice? So sorry for your loss. It sounds like you are ready to move on . . which is wonderful. I wish you all the best. Dayna

Hi Gail, Welcome to the group. I lost my husband 7 years ago and there are many others who are feeling the same as you. I'm one of the community leaders here along with Martha ( cliffskat ) and Marsha ( marjoe ) and we all lost our spouse 5 or more years ago. You will find this a great place for getting back to a life you can have. We are all struggling with the same feelings, though in different ways.

I am also a member of the group Hopeful-hearts-live-after-loss which we often talk about after working through the acute stages of grief, and yet still missing what we have lost. You would be welcome to be part of both groups. Sharon

Believe it or not one place I get approached by men is the grocery store. I do not initiate conversation, they do. No, I have not gone out with any of these men so I cant say whether this is a good way to meet someone great or not. They might just be looking for a good cook! LOL.

Someone just mentioned meetup.com in another post. I looked it up and seems they have all kinds of different groups - I found one in my area specifically for widows/widowers. I'm no where near read to start dating anyone - - but it would be nice to meet some people that are going through the same thing. Hope this helps.

After about 3 years of learning to figure out who I was without him I met a new friend on Facebook. He was a brother of a classmate and we began talking about her. I discovered that his wife had also passed so we developed a friendship. I guess it just happened as neither of us were interested in a relationship.

About a year later, I was on a website called Senior People Meet. I was mostly doing it for enjoyment as an alternative to television or reading. I made a few friends around the country who I never met and then met a gentleman who lived less than 10 miles away. We are now together over 3 years. Sharon
