I know how you feel, what a sad empty feeling. I lost my wife of 20 years to ovarian cancer. It’s been almost 9 months for me, and I came back to this site after being away for a few months. You talking about a empty house, I know exactly what you mean. There used to be so much laughter here. I probably sound kind of redundant from other comments I have made, but just remember, everyone here knows how you feel, so just talk, express your feelings and show compassion for others on this site. I am so sorry for your loss. The empty house is one of the worst things for me. I keep waiting for my husband of 36 yrs to walk thru the door in the evening. I know he wont but I still wish for it. I agree with Met1974 when she say its a house not a home right now. Please know there is a great deal of support and love in this group. You are not alone.

Hi Jay. My wife of 30 years died of pancreatic cancer, 4 months after her terminal diagnosis. I know right now you are in what they call widow's fog, and it enables us to accomplish some things like funeral, memorial, etc, that would not be possible once the fog lifts and the real pain begins. Be in no hurry to get a new life going, your good judgment goes out the window. At nearly 3 years after her death, I've learned to give any major decision lots of time before I make it. Writing my feelings to sort out what I'm going through helps me alot. And you've got to reach a point where you are comfortable with being alone and getting to know yourself before you can even consider pursuing a relationship. I'm sincerely sorry for your loss. I am so sorry for your loss. I know those feel like empty words right now. They did to me. I lost my husband 9 weeks ago and it feels like a lifetime and just yesterday all at the same time. First you must......heal. the rest will be, what it will be. God has a plan. Everythig happens for a reason, we may not like it, know it, or understand it. but it happens regardless of if we participate or not. I’m sorry you’re going through this. My wife if 25 years had a heart attack a little over six months ago. She was the third of her siblings to die this way between age 50-52. We thought we’d beat the curse when her blockage was caught and stented five years ago, but she’d been in decline the last couple years with mini strokes and other things. So her death was a complete shock but not entirely a surprise. I’ve come to realize she was essentially terminal for the last year without a diagnosis of such. I’m grateful that I didn’t watch her suffer through something so agonizing as the illnesses described here, but there’s really no way to truly prepare for such an enormous event anyway. I trust you’ll find solace here amongst those who “get it” when so many around you just won’t. I’m not a believer myself, but I wish you blessings and good healing. It will take time.

On 10/14/17 my wife of 27 years died in my arms of a PE at the age of 46! I struggle to find happiness in anything, i mean absolutly nothing brings me joy! I have gone to a Grief support group for several months, and think i will stop going. Its a group of about 25, and I am the only man. Of course it feels good to verbalize your feelings with others also in pain, but what is disturbing to me is that there are a handful of people there who are 3-6 years post loss and say they feel no better and in some aspects feel worse! When they share their pain, I feel hopeless in my own "recovery".


I can't sleep, can't focus, cranky as hell, and im keeping it all in.... I did just this week start to take a low dose of Prozac to see if it helps me.


My family consits of her parents and my adult son, all of whom i think are as bad as me!

So sorry for your loss there is a grief program called Grief Share. It last around 14 weeks. Each week there is a different topic. It’s not like a support group where you share and process The program has structure, is Christian based and offers a wealth of healthcare professionals who have suffered loss. They share there experiences and how they healed. Griefshare.org. Look for a program starting near you. Hugs you are not alone. We all have loss pain and suffering in common.

That feeling of an empty house and loneliness is one we all share. My husband passed 9 months from diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. I have thought of moving to another home but one of my girlfriends, who is also a widow, said what is the point of moving, when you close the door, you are still alone. Gee, kind of harsh but as I thought of it, she was right. No matter where I live, I will be alone. I try to keep myself busy with friends, family which is all fine but then I come home and yep I'm alone. Thoughts and prayers to you, Jan.
