Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
I live in the Southwest part of the country.
In response to being lonely, I believe that we have spent a good part of our lives sharing our time with our life partner. Now that they are (in my case suddenly) no longer with us we are at loose ends. It is very hard trying to figure out what to do with myself now. We did everything together. That includes shopping, hiking, walking, going to the theater, and so forth. Now I find that I'd rather order groceries instead of going to the market because that was something that we did together every weekend. I also miss the companionship that we shared. We enjoyed each others company. I feel that it is also hard now because it is the holiday season and he and I both had fun this time of year. He liked how I got excited about the kids coming over for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas.
It is very lonely in my home now because it is just me. All of our children are grown and living their own lives. On the weekends now, I put on football or basket ball now because that was one of his favorite pass times on Saturdays and Sundays. I guess I'm just rambling now, but this is what's going on with me now. I will end this now. Be safe everyone.
I lost my husband 12/17/17 to pulmonary fibrosis (a scarring and hardening of the lung tissue). The doctors had no idea what caused it and thought, (my husband and I) that we had more time, but 10 months later he passed, a shell of the man he’d been at the start of the year.
He stayed at home throughout his illness and I was his caregiver. In September hospice stepped in and what a true blessing they were for both me and my husband.
It’s almost been a year since he passed and I still miss him terribly. But I force myself to get out of the house as often as I.can, because I know it’s what I need to do. because It’s how I’ll manage to move on with my life. In my head I know this is how it’s supposed to work, but I feel rudderless so often with no destination or goal other than to survive..
It’s hard yes, more so than most of us realized, but finding a group like this with so many who are going through the same types of emotions and grief somehow makes me feel not so alone any more.and a little easier to deal with.
