Life is like a bell curve. We are born with nothing but bare skin as our base in life. Can't talk, can't walk, can only scream, suck, and pee. As we age, we learn all kinds of things in school and in life. Marriage, careers, children, dealing with aging parents, then dealing with their deaths. Finally, we lose our spouses and we begin to slide rapidly down the right side of the bell curve. Our children have flown the coop and have lives of their own. We begin to have our own health problems, maybe financial problems, too. We begin to fear losing everything eventually. This is the life cycle of the human animal. When Joe died, he left his wallet, his driver's license, his truck, our house, his garden (which grew up in weeds), his wedding ring and favorite garnet ring. his clothes, the camper trailer, his 4-wheeler, and me. He went to heaven with nothing more than he arrived here with. It's my opinion that this is God's plan - to introduce us to the world, interact with it, then call us to a closer relationship with him. I used to think I loved God more than anything else. But when Joe was dying for 2 years, I realized that I had put Joe above everything else, even God. At my lowest point completely broken in grief, I turned to God and said, "You are the master planner. Your plans are perfect. I give him to you willingly but full of grief. Please sustain me and be my closest friend." Now, God really is my closest friend. When I am all alone one day, whether it be altzheimers, cancer, cardiac,or whatever, my closest most loving friend will be there to take my hand and lead me on. Earth is just a training ground for eternity in heaven. We must train well, as no one has escaped this earth alive.
