Yesterday I was diagnosed with a TSA. It's a mini-stroke. It happened while I was visiting my father, a sudden numbness on my left side. It was scary and I called out to God right away. I told my father to pray and dial. He called 911 and three minutes later everything was okay. Then on to t he hospital and test ranging from MRI to cat scan. It showed that everything was okay, but the doctor still beleives it was a TSA.

Now I'm afraid to live alone. Frightened that something could happen. So I'm looking into some emergency response services. I've called Life Alert and the one offered by Walgreens. Any other suggestions?

TSA? or TIA? Trans ischemic attack? Yes they are scary but quite common. Try not to freak. You can still live alone. It might not happen again for a long long time. AND your test came back normal. I would not presss the panic button just yet.

What was going on when it happened? That could tell you something.

I meant TIA. I was visiting my father at the time. We were having a nice time, so no stress.

When my mom lived with me, I had through ADT systems a kind of Life alert that she wore around her neck. It's included in the package when you get a system. If there is a emergency, you can push the button and the system will ask if there is a problem. If they don't hear from you that there isn't they send emercency personnell to check you out.

I had it if I had to go to the store, and leave her alone for a while. It worked very well, and I had the system installed for nothing back then through a promotion kind of thing. worth checking out as an alternituve?

For my Mom we had a tele-emergency unit. It has no monthly fee. She wore a pendant that when pressed would call up to 5 different numbers--(family or friends that were close --in a series) and or 911.

I origionally purchase a unit directly from then and later when my Aunt wanted one I found it on Amazon for a better price.
Each of the family members could stop the unit from further dialing if they were able to respond but if none were available it went to 911.

Glad you are okay!

A TIA can happen to anyone...the alert buttons are a good idea for living alone anyway. Don't give up independent living over a TIA...it may never happen again...or it could happen tomorrow. None of us have any guarantees...

Carla is entirely correct. It could be an isolated incident. Get some sort of alert system and go on and enjoy life. Be prudent but don't waste valuable time worrying about what might happen.......life is too short as it is.

Check out your local security companies. We found the local security alarm company offered a similiar life alert gadget and response unit much cheaper than Life Alert per month.

My Mom now age 84 has one, but she had a full blown heart attack. I had a TIA during chemo - and that was 16 yrs ago been fine ever since - I wonder if stress plays a factor? My husband had one in 1999 also but never had any problems with that anymore. His major heart attack that took him was clogged arteries plack that cut loose...

When me and family were shopping around for medical alerts for my grandma, we talked to EVERY company out there! Price wise, everyone was about the same. But when it came to service, they weren't all the same. We went with Life Alert, simply because they are the best, and we haven't regretted it.
