Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

It is like out of body experience sometimes, as if I were above the earth observing what is underneath.
Very often I am just being, as if I were a fly on the wall, not in the midst of their emotions and concerns.
When I hear bad news, I experience muffled, dull sadness, not an active poignant response to things as it used to be.
Another strange thing happened, that I started liking everything old; older music, older classis movies, like to be around older people. I even moved to a senior Sunday school group, where everybody is 10-20 years older, and I feel more comfortable around them.
In many grief recovery groups I saw anger, bitterness, irate grieving, other scary manifestations of anguish, it was frightening. I prayed I will never experience rage, but I did some, it was a road rage though, and I was glad when it was gone. I prefer dull, it is less damaging to me and to my relationships with those whom I care about deeply.
Perhaps, staying emotionally closed for a while is a part of a healing process, or another permanent change I have to accept.
I think it is easier to move on for you, since you moved. You are creating your own person, your own identity. That's a good thing. I think I'm still a little stuck as the other half of a couple. I'm trying to move beyond that, but it's not that easy.
I think where you are, is just where you are meant to be. You will always remember your husband, I think more so, than you did for your mother.

When I get down in the dumps the sad parts come out not just in losing him but all that has happened from that point on. This just is not what I invisioned my later yrs of my life would be. Its true I also do not want to get trampled down stuck here in my sorrow forever.
As to the original post - I know alreadiy I am feeling like bits of him and me are slipping away. At least I dream about him still!
But anyway...I get what you mean.
hugs...
