That's a pretty amazing story. It shows how much she knew her family needed love in it. I think most of our spouses would not want us to suffer and be alone and miserable forever, much less our kids. Cliff and I discussed the "what if" after the deaths of each of our 4 parents - they all preceded him in death - and we agreed that if one of us died, the other should grieve for a time but not forever, that whichever of us was left behind should try to live a happy life and if possible find love for ourselves and someone to care for our boys, too. When he died, I didn't think that would ever happen, and I wasn't looking for it. I couldn't conceive of loving again and fulfiling that agreement. But love finds you when you least expect it. I became friends with a widower in this group (Acuriousfish) and we remarried 3 years ago. I have a new blended family, too - my kids have step-grandparents who love them, and I have gained a step-daughter, so it's not just about what has been good for me and for my new husband.

I know it's not the answer for everybody, and it's not what everyone wants or would consider. There is no right way or wrong way on this - please don't misunderstand me. This news story just reminded me of what Cliff and I had discussed and agreed upon, and how it actually came about to become a reality - our new reality, our new life.

Thank you for this story. Two weeks before my husband died, we had a discussion on what I would do if something should happen to him. We had no clue he was so close to dying. This is one topic we did not discuss. I know he would want me to be happy and I would like to find a "companion" to be with, go to the movies, etc. When that happens, it will be great. For now, I am focusing on helping my kids, and making plans for a new fresh start living closer to my son.

You of course, did exactly the right thing. We are able to love a number of people (NOBODY relaces anybody) but there is a place for all comers who have a claim on your love. If you have been happy in marriage it is wholesome that you should want to cherish and be cherished again - your loved ones gone before rejoice when you find love and companionship again, instead of feeling that you are somehow being untrue to their memory. There is no betrayal in loving again and it is a wonderful thing!
