I haven't even thought about my birthday, which after reading your posting made me realize this is another first I have to face.
I understand how you feel about being so far away from home. As much as we face the silence of our homes we shared with our spouses, it remains our home and we feel closer to them. My wife loved our home, it is where she wanted to be towards her end of life. So home is very special, but not the same and never will be. You will be home again, keep that in mind and try to remember the good times you shared with your husband. That is what I try to do at these times that we shared together, that were special for both my wife and I.
My wife and never really celebrated birthdays that much, so I don't anticipate a big problem there. However, we always had difficulty on our daughters birthday ( she died when she was 17 ) and having family around seemed to help. We actually use that day as fund raiser for charities in our daughters name.
Just get through the day the best you can. If you are a hugger try to get some from family.
