Oh the paperwork and the ignorance of businesses. Just something we have to contend with. I am in the midst of piles of crap that need addressed, but damnit they can wait til I'm good and ready to deal. Trying to keep the wolves at bay. A few accounts have been turned over to collection. But I don't really care. They will get it when I have it. Don't care if it ruins his credit. He is gone. I too keep getting e-mails to my husband with all the "sweet" deals the casinos are offering. Sorry, he doesn't need money anymore, he hit the lottery! (Heaven) hang in there kiddo. Hugs, Michele

When I was closing out accounts, I took the death certificates to the bank where we had no less than 5 accounts, including his business account which had all of $3.00 left in it after I had paid all the bills and shut it down. We co-owned his business, I had a debit card on it in my name for years, was a signatory on the account since I opened it, but because the bank could not locate the signature card showing I had the authority, they wanted me to get a probate order to close the account. Really??? for $3.00??? They let me close everything else out no problem, but somehow they wanted me to spend thousands to get them a court order saying I was entitled to that last $3.00!!! Don't think so!!! Finally, they agreed to freeze the account instead and not allow any additional transactions. Well, duh! You can keep the @~%$ $3.00! Idiots!

I hate stuff like that. It will eventually stop.

As for the e-mails, I have one of Cliff's accounts which I check periodically, and love some of the nonsense that comes via spam e-mail. The Russian brides, heart attack preventers, and the ones letting him know he's been nominated for "Who's Who" yet again are particularly annoying.

I'm still struggling with the 'death' forms, as I have come to call them...every time I look at them, I am blinded by tears and can't see to fill them out anyway...

I didn't have to pay anything that didn't have my name on it and didn't have to show proof to any of his creditors. I called Social Security and the IRS and told them he was deceased so it could be noted in case anyone tried to use it. The only ones I had to prove it to was the life insurance co. Maybe things are different from state to state.

Barbara passed away on March 14th this year. Very recently I got a demand from the Governments Pension Dept. (UK) to repay 96 which they said they had overpaid into her account as she had already died the previous week. In fact the amount in totally incorrect and I returned the demand stating that. . If they come up with the correct amount I will repay the Govt as Barbara was NEVER in any debt in her life and I certainly don't want her saddled with one now !

The paperwork is awful. I had to send so many death certificates out and sign this and sign that. When I requested my husbands medical records i was denied because they said I wasn't his "next of kin" Seriously??? But when they sent the hospital bill I was ok to pay it. Crazy how this all works. Its hard enough to loose everything and be grieving yet we still have to be bombarded by a mountain of paperwork.

Where I live, the bureaucrats rule (Spain) and for every other stupid thing they require a document from here where you swear you in fact live at the address you give. It has to be gotten within the last 3 months of when they ask for it.
So, today I thought I needed it for renewal of my youngest's ID, so I tried to get it, and thought it was time to update it, officially informing them of my husband's death. The j******s said that the death certificate wasn't enough. First we had to cross town to get one document, then go to another office to get it authenticated, and then return. . .what the hell! Blew it off of course, but will eventually have to do it (and luckily didn`t need it today in the end).

I didn't have to pay anything that didn't have my name on it, including the hospital bill. But I did find out he charged a lot of things I never knew about in MY NAME. Like a $800 cell phone bill. Things that ruined my credit. I had good credit before he did that, he had terrible credit.
