The days get harder and longer since Skip left us. I work at the same place my Skip worked so every day I walk by his building and see the cats that he use to feed and it just breaks my heart. I see his coworkers with their same uniforms as Skip and think of him even more. I have to sit on our driveway for at least an hour every day just to get the courage to enter the house where we lived for seven beautiful years that we both loved so much. It is just so sad lonely and empty now. I have a handicapped daughter that he had taken on the role of dad for her which she never had before. Our world was a fairly tale that most people never get to experience, but why was it all taken away from me and Jeannie in a blink of an eye. I have always tried very hard to be the best possible person I could be in life. I searched for Skip for 20 years finally find him and then lose him in seven short years. I have my wedding dress and veil hanging in the closet ready for a Jamaica wedding in December. My mom passed away in November and I had showed her the dress and veil and wanted her to know that Skip would be by my side to take care of me and Jeannie She even left a wedding card behind for me and Skip. he was suppose to be here to take care of us Why is he gone. I try to pray to God for answers and ask Skip too but no answers never come. I am so heart broken don;t know what to do anymore. I hate my life and don;t want to go on Thanks for listening

I'm so sorry for your terrible loss. Nothing prepares you for this at all. I know for me it felt like falling down through the floor and keeping on falling without stopping for about 6 months after my wonderful husband died suddenly of a heart attack. I don't know what to say to help, except that you're not alone as long as you keep seeking people to talk to who understand, like we all understand here. Keep breathing deeply, and be very very kind to yourself in any moment that you can during each day.

I know the feeling. It's been a year and 8 months since my partner had a heart attack and drowned, and for me it has, in many ways, only become harder. This morning I didn't want to get up and wanted to just be dead myself. Obligations that I can't even imagine completing will keep my here (and I don't believe in taking life); cleaning out my apartment, his storage, our pets together...who would care for them? But I can tell you, if I didn't have those, and if I could just open a door to the other side and walk through it, I would not hesitate to do so. It would be nice to find joy again, as I know that's our duty to the gift of life given, and I'm sure that's what your Skip and my John would want for us, but it is very difficult. This site helps, and the many wise, generous and empathetic things people share.

We have so many questions without answers. That's the hardest part of losing someone who means everything to you. It's not your fault. There's nothing you could have done to prevent it. The stupid platitudes people say hurt us more. He should be here with you and your daughter, I get that. It's your time. Claim it. Own the pain and suffering and it will lessen. It will be 9 years for me and I still own it. But I can live and you will get to that place too. I'm sorry for your loss and the pain it brings. Sharon
